Midland National Insurance Co. v. Rodriguez, et al.
The family of a murder victim retained us to help them obtain his life insurance benefits. Midland National had refused to pay any benefits on the ground that the murderer, the victim’s wife, had taken out the policy on her husband’s life with the intention of killing him and collecting on the insurance. We argued in federal court that the husband had his independent reasons for purchasing the policy and therefore the family was entitled to insurance benefits. After this initial hearing, the case was settled with payment of benefits to the victim’s family.
